Andréa is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose canvas typically extends into the public domain. Specializing in murals and socially engaged art projects, he aims to democratize contemporary art’s accessibility and challenge the aesthetic status quo.
“Invariably, our urban landscapes lean towards the mundane—adrift in squares, drabness, and a palette of earthy hues.” Determined to combat this ennui, Andréa has been creating site-specific murals and community art projects that boldly defy the conventions of our traditional surroundings. His work draws much of its’ inspiration from architectural motifs, graffiti’s vibrancy, and the intricacies of graphic design. Subverting the built-environment through a kaleidoscopic gaze.” Andréa’s design process is a byproduct of our coexistence with the digital realm. He creates complex layered digital compositions infused with depth and transparencies. Then, by navigating this chaotic digital landscape, he finds an intuitive balance and flow in the composition.
“I aim to evoke emotions and convey a sense of possibility—the energy and chaos inherent in the universe upon closer inspection. If a figurative design tells us a narrative story, unfolding the pages of a book, I aspire to offer a microscope, a portal, or a psychedelic awakening. We are all interconnected manifestations of the very essence of existence.”
Born in the United States, Andréa studied graphic design at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, social practice art and painting at Portland State University, and earned his Master’s in Urban Planning from Temple University in Philadelphia. With a decade of experience as a muralist, he has collaborated extensively with Mural Arts Philadelphia, the largest public art organization in the USA.
